Build the infrastructure layer for Precision Medicine

Axia Medicine is building foundational infrastructure for Precision Medicine.

Fragmented health data blocks effective care delivery and slows research. Care providers and researchers struggle to access complete, longitudinal, multimodal data, even when individuals are willing to participate. The result is delayed diagnoses, suboptimal treatment decisions, and inefficient research.

Axia solves this by building a secure, scalable platform that unifies multimodal health data and enables governed, compliant access for care providers, researchers, and industry partners. Data never leaves the platform. Access is permissioned, auditable, and designed for real clinical and research workflows.

Axia was founded by a team that has built national-scale health data platforms at Amazon, DNAnexus, and Microsoft. We have validated pilots with patient associations and active engagement with pharma and research groups. We are now building the founding engineering team to take the platform to production scale.

The role

We are hiring a Founding Engineer to design and build the core Axia platform and to help shape the engineering organization from day one.

You will be the first senior engineering hire, working directly with the founders to ship the MVP, define the system architecture, and set the technical direction for a regulated, high-stakes data platform used by care providers and researchers.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership over product, architecture, and long-term technical decisions.

What you’ll do

Platform & Architecture

  • Build and launch Axia’s core data platform from Day One

  • Design secure, scalable systems for multimodal health data (clinical records, genomics, real-world data)

  • Implement consent, access control, auditability, and longitudinal data integrity

  • Enable governed data access for care providers and research partners via federated workspaces

Product & Collaboration

  • Work closely with domain experts to translate clinical and research needs into production systems

  • Help define MVP scope and technical tradeoffs under real regulatory and time constraints

Founding responsibilities

  • Define engineering standards, workflows, and early technical culture

  • Make foundational decisions on stack, tooling, and system design

  • Contribute to early hiring and long-term team structure

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, building production systems

  • Strong backend and platform engineering background

  • Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure (AWS or equivalent)

  • Experience working with sensitive or regulated data (health, financial, or similar)

  • Strong technical judgment and comfort operating with ambiguity

  • Ability to balance speed with correctness, security, and scalability

Nice to have

  • Experience with healthcare, biomedical, or research data

  • Experience in early-stage startups or 0→1 platforms
